Nathan - I agree completely with you as far as us not being able to completely envision our lives with the bare minimums. I find it very hard to define between the needs and wants when it comes to things like bottled water (for an example). I don't like to drink water anyway, but I really don't like water straight from the faucet, so for me to drink water, I see bottled water as a NEED, even though I know it's not really and drinking the water from my tap won't kill me as it would in other countries!

Definitley a constant battle!

It's difficult for us to easily picture exactly how it would be to live with less than what we deem, "essential", and so our perspective is skewed. There's plenty of people in the world who would think a daily shower is great luxury, whereas if the water is off for more than a few hours, we get pretty testy.

As we're always struggling to be more frugal than we are, it's a constant battle to think, "Do we REALLY need that, or would it just be really nice and convenient?"

Excellent blog!! I think this is something we all need to think about from time to time. Having kids and taking our income down a good whack really opened my eyes to wants vs needs!!
I'm enjoying your blog !!
